Our History

Then…

About Face Design was established by Robert and Julie Camburn in August 1981 as the typesetting company About Face Typesetting, Inc. With the birth of the first Macintosh computer in 1984, the typesetting industry was in for hard times. As the personal computer became increasingly prevalent, more and more typesetting businesses vanished or began offering new services. About Face Typesetting heeded its own namesake and took on a new direction.

And now…

In late 2007, the firm added marketing as a part of its portfolio of services. Today, the woman-owned business is a full-service marketing communications and graphic design boutique having re-branded itself as About Face Design (AFD). The firm has made a name for itself by producing compelling work, especially through social awareness initiatives. AFD's work on the MenCan campaign earned it an entry in the 2009 book Designing for the Greater Good, which features 24 international, nonprofit branding campaigns that showcase the best in cause-related marketing.
